We have the Holt Family Easter Party this year on April 20, 2019 at the Holt Farmstead in South Jordan!

As before, there will be memorabilia items that can be purchased:

  • Of Dugouts and Spires: The History of South Jordan, Utah – $20
  • Historical Throw – $40

The Holt Family Homestead is on Holt Farm Lane in South Jordan. The address is right off 1300 W and 10300 South. Here is a Google Map link:

The fire pit will be ready at 11:30 am.

All families should bring their own:

  • drinks
  • hot dogs and buns
  • any condiments you would like
  • plates, cups and utensils
  • blanket, or chairs, or ever a small outdoor table to stake out their site at the gathering

Water and wood (to roast) will be provided.

If families want to share off the main table, they should bring one of the following:

  • a dish of some kind for the main table such as jello salad, green salad, potato salad
  • a dessert of some kind such as cake, cookies, brownies, etc. (careful with ice cream!)
  • anything that you think would be a nice contribution to the picnic

Want to know more about the personal histories of Samuel and Margaret Holt and their ancestors?

  • Did you know that Samuel’s farm once served as the bishop’s tithing storehouse
  • and that Margaret was the “Goddess of Liberty” in a parade when Samuel first became interested in her?
  • Their ancestors were prominent figures in the eighteen hundreds.
  • Samuel’s mother, Ann Harrison delivered 500 babies as a midwife.
  • Margaret’s father, Henry Byram Beckstead was the first Sexton of the South Jordan cemetery
  • and her mother, Catherine Egbert was the first child born in West Jordan.
  • Margaret’s grandfather, Henry Beckstead helped rescue the stranded Willie and Martin handcart companies.
  • Her great grandfather, Alexander Beckstead and his family were personally rescued by the Prophet Joseph Smith when they were surrounded by a mob as they arrived in Missouri.

Log in and simply look up the name of any of these people. Click on their name, then click on stories and photos. If you have additional stories or pictures to add, please do so.
